Update your profile photo and name

What this does

Your profile holds the photo and name shown on your account. You set both in "Settings" on the "General" tab, under "Profile". Your photo appears on the avatar button in the top right of the app.

How to do it

The profile controls live in "Settings", which you reach from your account menu in the top right.

1. Open "Settings" and stay on the "General" tab.
2. Under "Profile", click "Upload photo" and choose an image from your device. Once you already have a photo, that button reads "Replace photo".
3. To change your name, type it in the "Name" field and click the check button next to it to save.
4. To go back to no custom photo, click "Remove" next to your avatar.

Your new photo and name show up right away, including on the avatar button in the top bar.

Common questions

What image can I use for my photo?

You can upload a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF up to 4 MB. After you choose a file it uploads on its own — there is no separate save step for the photo. The image you pick replaces any photo you had before, which is why the button reads "Replace photo" once you have one.

What happens when I click "Remove" on my photo?

"Remove" clears the custom photo you uploaded. If you signed in with Google and have a Google profile picture, your avatar falls back to that. Otherwise it shows your initials. "Remove" only appears when you have a custom photo to remove.

Where does my photo show up?

Your photo appears on the round avatar button in the top right of the app. If you have not uploaded one, that button shows your Google picture when you signed in with Google, or your initials.

Do I have to set a name?

When you sign up, your name is set automatically from the part of your email before the "@" — so jane.doe@example.com becomes "jane.doe". You can change it anytime in the "Name" field to whatever you prefer.

When it doesn't work

• "Image is too large (max 4 MB)" — Pick a smaller file or compress the image. The limit is 4 MB per photo.
• "Use a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF image" — The file you chose is not a supported image type. Re-save it as one of those formats and upload again.
• "Couldn't upload your image. Try again." — The upload didn't finish. Check your connection and try once more.
• "Enter your name." — The "Name" field was empty when you clicked the check button to save. Type a name first.
• Photo didn't change after uploading — Give it a moment and reload the page. The avatar button updates once the new photo is saved.
