Auto-register domains with Smart Acquisitions

What this does

Smart Acquisitions registers dropping domains for you automatically. You set rules describing the kind of domain you want, and when a domain becomes available that matches a rule, Euphyr registers it through one of your connected providers without you having to watch the drop.

A rule has a name, a provider to register through, and up to three criteria: letter count, last sale price, and age. You also set a daily limit on how many domains the rule can buy. A domain has to meet every criterion you set for the rule to act on it.

This spends real money from your registrar balance. New rules are saved off, presets never enable a rule, and nothing happens until you deliberately enable a rule and turn on the "Armed" switch.

How to do it

1. Open "Smart Acquisitions" from the left sidebar.
2. Click "New rule".
3. Choose "Short names", "Proven sales", or "Aged names" to fill the form with an editable starting point, or start with empty fields.
4. Give the rule a name and pick the provider to register through. Only providers you've connected that support registration appear here.
5. Set any of the three criteria — "Letters", "Last sale (USD)", and "Age (years)" — each with a minimum, a maximum, or both. Leave a field blank for no limit.
6. Review "Current match preview". It checks the rule against up to the next 100 surfaced drops with the age and sale data currently available.
7. Set the "Daily limit" — the most domains this rule can buy in a single day. During private beta, your account can make at most three registration attempts per day across manual and automatic purchases, and failed attempts count.
8. Click "Create rule". The new rule stays off.
9. Turn on the rule with its switch, then flip the "Armed" switch at the top of the page. While "Paused", no rule buys anything.

Common questions

Which providers can register domains for me?

Dynadot and name.com. You need to connect at least one of them in "Settings" first. When you create a rule, only your connected providers that expose a confirmed USD registration price appear in the "Register through" list. The domain is registered into that provider account, paid for with that account's balance. Spaceship remains available for manual registration, but Smart Acquisitions does not use it because its API does not provide a safe standard-price confirmation before purchase.

What does "last sale" mean in a rule?

It's the most recent recorded sale price for that exact domain, by date. If a domain sold several times, Smart Acquisitions uses the latest sale, not the highest. A domain with no recorded sales never matches a rule that sets a last-sale minimum or maximum, because there's no sale price to check against.

What happens if two people's rules want the same domain?

A domain can only be registered once, so Euphyr tries buyers in order. Priority goes to the rule that has been set up the longest without changes — the earliest rule wins. If that buyer's registration doesn't go through, Euphyr tries the next, and so on. Editing a rule moves it to the back of the line, so keeping an old rule untouched is what holds your priority.

How do I know when a rule bought a domain?

You get an inbox notification and, when "Successful acquisition emails" is on in "Settings", an email. The domain appears in your portfolio, and the "Activity" section lists recent attempts. Missed acquisitions stay in the inbox and activity log rather than sending email.

Does the match preview guarantee a registration?

No. "Current match preview" is an estimate based on the next surfaced drops and the data available now. Availability and domain signals can change before the drop, and another buyer may register a matching domain first.

Do presets turn anything on?

No. A preset only fills editable rule fields. Saving creates the rule in the off state, and Smart Acquisitions remains paused until you turn on both the rule and the "Armed" switch.

What currency is the price shown in?

The price next to a bought domain in "Activity" is the confirmed registration price and includes its currency. Smart Acquisitions currently buys only when the provider confirms a USD price of $100 or less.

Will it buy premium domains?

No. Premium domains are always skipped. Automatic registration also requires a confirmed USD price of $100 or less. If the provider cannot confirm the price before purchase, Euphyr does not send the registration request.

When it doesn't work

• A matching domain wasn't bought — Check that the rule's switch is on and the "Armed" switch at the top is on. While "Paused", rules are saved but never act.
• Activity shows "Missed — low balance" — Your rule matched the domain and tried to register it, but your provider account didn't have enough balance. Top up that provider's balance so the next match can go through.
• Activity shows "Missed — caught first" — The domain matched your rule, but another buyer registered it before you. Nothing went wrong on your side; someone simply had priority or got there first.
• Activity shows "Missed — failed" — The registration didn't complete for another reason, such as a provider error. Check that the provider is still connected in "Settings".
• Activity shows "Skipped — daily cap" — The rule already bought its daily limit of domains. Raise the "Daily limit" on the rule if you want it to buy more in one day.
• An armed rule stops attempting registrations — Euphyr can pause all automatic purchases during a safety incident. No registrar request is sent while the pause is active. Your rule stays armed and resumes when the operator pause is lifted, subject to the account-wide daily registration limit.
• The page says "Purchases paused" — Euphyr has temporarily stopped automatic registrations. You cannot arm Smart Acquisitions during this pause. Your rules and previous arm setting stay unchanged.
• A provider is missing from the rule's list — Connect it in "Settings" first. Only connected providers that support registration appear in "Register through".
• The preview says no current drops match — Broaden one or more criteria, or wait for the dropping list to update. A blank preview does not prevent you from saving the rule.
• "Smart Acquisitions didn't load" — Click "Try again". Your saved rules and arm state are unchanged.
